KAPA‘A — The Kapa‘a Warriors outlasted the Waimea Menehune in the morning portion of Saturday’s doubleheader, coming away with a 6-5 victory, their first of the young season, at Ron Martin Field in Kapa‘a.
Brehdan Kamibayashi got the victory on the mound for Kapa‘a, while also making an impact at the plate. The senior was 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

Tacata was 3 for 4, while Correa went 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
Kapa‘a freshman Robert Soares was 2 for 2 with a stolen base in the game.
The Warriors struck first, plating two runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Menehune responded with one run in the third, but another two-run inning gave Kapa‘a a 4-1 edge after three completed.
Waimea struck back and brought home two runs in the top of the fourth, but they were nullified by Kapa‘a’s third straight two-run inning and a 6-3 lead.
Waimea managed to scrape one run in the fifth and one in the top of the seventh, but could not bring the tying run home in its first loss of the young season.
Waimea outhit Kapa‘a 9-7, but the timely hits and solid play in the field gave the Warriors the victory.
The second game was a completely different affair, with the Menehune dominating in an 18-1 blowout.
Waimea (2-1) had sophomore Shylen-John Keuma on the mound for the victory. The pitcher was one of many Menehune who had big days at the plate, as he finished 4 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
The fourth inning turned out to be where most of the damage was done, as Waimea batted around and scored 12 runs, not relenting after establishing an early lead.
Waimea’s Kalani Fernandez was 2 for 5 in the game with a home run, three RBIs and two runs.
Kapa‘a’s DJ Awohi scored the lone Warrior run, going 1 for 1 with a walk and a stolen base.

The Menehune banged out 10 hits in the game, while holding the Warriors to just four.
Waimea will have the week off, while Kapa‘a will again play host on Wednesday, this time with the Kaua‘i Red Raiders (2-1) coming to Ron Martin Field for a single game at 3:30 p.m.
The Menehune are back in action with a doubleheader, Saturday at Vidinha Stadium against Kaua‘i. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
