LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i’s Complete Count Committee announced the kick-off of the week-long Census road tour scheduled at 10:15 a.m., Monday in the Mo‘ikeha Building courtyard at the Lihu‘e Civic Center.
The kick-off will begin with a proclamation by Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr., followed by presentations by Council Vice Chair Jay Furfaro, former Mayor Maryanne Kusaka and representatives of the U.S. Census Bureau, a county news release states.
Also making an appearance at the event will be the Hawai‘i Counts van with U.S. Census Bureau staff members on hand to answer questions and distribute mementos of this event.
The Kaua‘i kick-off coincides with the nationwide mailout of the 2010 Census and calls attention to the importance of everyone filling out and mailing back their questionnaires.
A grand finale of the road tour with continuous entertainment is slated from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, at Kukui Grove Center.
Included in the line-up are some of Kaua‘i’s popular entertainers: Aloha Dance Studio; Tsunami Taiko Drummers; Chico Edralin; Papa‘a Bay Boys; and John Rivera – Green Stone Project.
The information provided in the Census largely determines how much of the $400 billion annual federal budget each state will receive for the next 10 years for vital community services such as police, fire, housing, schools and transportation.
