LIHU‘E — The deadline to apply for a position on the Hawai‘i State Ethics Commission has been extended to today, according to a press release.
The Judicial Council is seeking to fill two vacancies that will occur on June 30, 2010.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and Hawai‘i residents, and may not hold any other public office. A resident of any island may apply, the state Judiciary press release states.
Transportation costs to attend meetings on O‘ahu are covered by the commission for Neighbor Island members.
The Ethics Commission regulates the ethics of all legislators, registered lobbyists, and state employees (with the exception of judges, who are governed by the Commission on Judicial Conduct), the release states.
The Ethics Commission is responsible for investigating complaints, providing advisory opinions and enforcing decisions issued by the commission.
The Hawai‘i State Constitution prohibits members of the Ethics Commission “from taking an active part in political management or political campaigns.”
Interested persons should submit applications along with resumes and three letters of recommendation (attesting to the applicant’s character and integrity) to: Judicial Council, Hawai‘i Supreme Court, 417 S. King St., Honolulu, HI 96813-2902.
