HANALEI — County officials have issued a warning to North Shore boaters of the possible safety hazard in the Hanalei River near Ohiki Road, about 1/4 mile from the Historic Hanalei Bridge.
Officials said that some of the boulders used to build a temporary revetment wall on the riverbank last year have separated from the wall and are now in the river, creating a possible safety hazard, a county news release states.
Boaters heading downstream are advised to stay to the left of the buoys that mark the location of the boulders.
The county is working with state and federal agencies and is developing a plan to remove the boulders.
The revetment wall was constructed following a Nov. 13 breach that resulted from heavy rains and flooding.
