Submarine spotting - The Garden Island

Princeville resident John Riggins took this photo of a submarine surfacing miles off the east coast of Kaua‘i, Thursday at the Kealia overlook. Pacific Missile Range Facility spokesman Tom Clements said the Navy has several submarines participating in a training and qualification course. ‘Due to weather conditions on Thursday, the lee side of the island was further around the bend than normal, thus people who may not usually see submarines were able get a glimpse,’ Clements said Monday. ‘The submarine did not enter Nawiliwili.’
