Warriors suffer home loss to No. 10 Beavers
HONOLULU – The University of Hawai‘i Rainbow baseball team (0-2) fell to the No. 10 Oregon State Beavers (2-0) in front of a crowd of 2,828 at Les Murakami Stadium, Saturday.
Matt Sisto took the loss, allowing six runs in 5.2 innings while Tanner Robles got the win for the Beavers.
Kolten Wong led the way for UH, going 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Greg Garcia added a 1-for-3 game with two runs while Colin Bennett hit his first home run as a Rainbow.
The two teams will continue the series today at 1:05 p.m, before closing out the series with a 5:05 p.m. game tomorrow.
Softball splits pair in Desert Classic
LAS VEGAS—The University of Hawai‘i softball team (5-3) fell to No. 10 Georgia Tech, 11-2 in six innings today at the Louisville-Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev.
Sophomore pitcher Stephanie Ricketts (2-3) threw just two innings in the loss at the Stephanie Lynn Craig Softball Complex.
The ‘Bows regrouped to trounce the Toreros of San Diego, 16-3 in five innings. Freshman Jessica Iwata, a 2009 Kaua‘i High School graduate, smashed her first collegiate home run in the win, going 1-for-1 with two walks, two runs and three RBIs.
Wahine hoops falls to Techsters
HONOLULU — The University of Hawai’i women’s basketball team made a late rally Saturday night against Louisiana Tech, but it wasn’t enough, as the Lady Techsters held on for a 79-71 victory at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Rainbow Wahine trailed by as many as 18 points in the second half,.
With the loss, UH falls to 9-18 overall and 3-11 in Western Athletic Conference action. Louisiana Tech improves to 18-6 overall and moves into second place with a 9-3 conference mark.
Warriors dropped by Cal Poly
HONOLULU — The men’s hoop squad suffered a 102-89 home loss to visiting Cal Poly, Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The non-conference loss puts Hawai‘i at 9-17 on the season, while still just 2-10 in the Western Athletic Conference.
