KILAUEA — Jennifer Antony did double-duty, Friday at the Kilauea Elementary School Career Day.
She not only had her nurse’s cap on to help with the presentations at the Career Day, she joined Kilauea School PTSA President Yen Upson in accepting a gift from Shawn Smith representing Falko Partners on behalf of Larry Bowman and the Bowman Foundation.
Smith dropped off a $5,000 contribution that not only served to kickstart the Kilauea School PTSA 4th annual “Save the Arts and Music” fundraiser, it was a gesture to welcome new school principal Sherry Scott.
“I couldn’t think of a better way to welcome a new principal to her new school,” Smith said. “I know the value of the arts and music programs here at the school, and with the budget cuts and the need to have these programs continue, Falko Partners is glad to be able to support these programs.”
The 4th annual “Save the Arts and Music” fundraiser will be held at the St. Regis in Princeville on March 6 and will feature ono pupu and live music provided by Titus Kinimaka and the Kaua‘i Boys, Chris Casale, The Yes Men and a special Tahitian dance performance by Urahutia Dance Group led by Mi Nei Oliver.
Antony, the PTSA vice president, said donations to the school’s program or to the silent auction at the fundraiser are welcomed. Funds raised by this event go to support the school’s arts and music programs.
“Without the fundraising events, there would not be any grade appropriate standardized art or music instruction in the classroom,” Antony said in a release.
Tickets for the evening of music and pupu are $45 in adance and $50 at the door. Tickets are available at the Magic Dragon Shop in Princeville, Hanalei Surf Co., and Kaua‘i Music and Sound in Kapa‘a.
Scott fills the principal’s shoes from the Elsie Wilcox Elementary School and brings 19 years of teaching and administrative experience to the North Shore.
