Sugiko Kajitani
Sugiko Ellen Kajitani of Kalaheo died Feb. 13, 2010, at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital at age 89. Born on Dec. 25, 1920, in Hilo, she was the secretary for the Council Office, County of Kaua‘i.
She is survived by her husband Itsuki Kajitani, daughter Mari (David) Kurose and two grandsons.
A private service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
Samuel Haluapo Sr.
Samuel Kamuela Haluapo Sr. of Longview, Wash., died Jan. 31, 2010, in Longview, Wash., at age 85. Born on April 3, 1924, in Honolulu, he was a retired longshoreman.
He was preceded in death by his wife Amelia Haluapo and son Robert Haluapo.
He is survived by his sons Samuel “Sam” Haluapo Jr. of Washington and Russell Haluapo of Anahola; daughters Joann Brech of Kapa‘a and Bernie Capell of Oregon; brothers David Haluapo, Clifford Lee, Edward Keoho and Albert Keoho; sister Elizabeth Makalapua Haluapo; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation at 8 a.m., services at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Lihu‘e First Church. Burial to follow at Lihu‘e Cemetery.

Larry Higashi
Larry Harumi Higashi of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 16, at his home at age 69. Born on March 14, 1940, in Hilo, he was a retired executive chef and engineer for Four Seasons Resort Hualalai.
He is survived by his wife Deborah Higashi of Kailua-Kona; mother Sumiko Higashi of Honolulu; sons Wayne Baretto of California and Timothy (Bennylynn) Dias of Florida; daughters Aulani (John) Abreu of Honolulu, Danel (Scott) Iwasaki of Lihu‘e, Lara (Kai) Adarna of Kailua-Kona and Hannah (John) Lozano of Kailua-Kona; sisters Harriet (Clayton) Chang of Honolulu, Evelyn (Dennis) Shimata of Kailua-Kona and Annette (Gary) Hirata of Honolulu; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation from 6 to 9 p.m., service at 7 p.m., on Monday, Feb. 22, at Borthwick Mortuary Honolulu Mauka Chapel.

Raymond Jerves
Raymond William Jerves of Hanama‘ulu died Feb. 13, 2010, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 77. Born on April 26, 1932, in Hanama‘ulu, he retired from Hale Kaua‘i as a cement truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Weslyn Jerves.
He is survived by his wife Meta Jerves of Hanama‘ulu; sons Wesley (Rhonda) Jerves of Hanama‘ulu and Raymond (Peggy) Jerves of Anahola; daughters Lorelei (Randy) Watson of Anahola and Alison (Joel) Miyashiro of Keapana; brother Wilfred Jerves of Hanama‘ulu; grandchildren Randy, Brydon, Kai, Kekoa, Kanoe, Chanel, Ashlyn, Jewel, Randall, Raym, Royal, Rankin, Rosie, Raynell, Raymond, Rymen, Alia, Cheilee and Joel-boy; 22 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation from noon to 12:30 p.m., services from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 20, at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery Pavilion in Hanapepe. Military honors from 1:30 to 1:45 p.m.; inurnment to follow.

Verna Jim
Verna Hanayo Jim of Hanapepe died Feb. 12, 2010, at Straub Clinic and Hospital at age 62. Born on Jan. 29, 1948, in Waimea, Kaua‘i, she was employed at Midpac Auto Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents Wallace and Chitose Momohara; sister Esther Shiraishi; and brother Wallace “Uncle Braddah” Momohara.
She is survived by her husband Anthony “Tony” Jim; sons Richard (Jenny) Jim of Waimea and Randall (Marcheta) Jim of Alaska; daughter Raechelle (Andrew) Gonsalves of New York; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters Edith “Deko” Ko of Las Vegas, Fay (Herbert) Honjo, Linda Momohara and Janice Momohara; brother-in-law Richard Shiraishi; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation at 1 p.m., service at 2 p.m., on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at Garden Island Mortuary Chapel.
Casual attire is suggested.
