The deadline for the HMSA/HHSAA Kaimana Awards and Scholarship program is Feb. 19.
Twenty-one HMSA Kaimana Scholarships worth $2,000 each will be awarded to deserving students, states the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Web site.
Scholarship recipients will be selected from each high school athletic league and division from around the state.
Additional HMSA Kaimana Distinguished Scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded to three of the 21 recipients.
Application forms are available at the HMSA Web site at www.hmsa.com, and at the HHSAA Web site at www.sportshigh.com.
Completed applications and letters of recommendation must be received by HMSA by 4 p.m., Feb. 19.
Winners for the Kaimana Awards will be selected based on athletic and academic achievement, community involvement, sportsmanship and the candidate’s letters of recommendation.
Candidates must be high school seniors graduating in 2010 from a Hawai‘i high school and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75. The candidate must have played on at least one school athletic team in a league-sanctioned sport during at least one of their high school years. Special consideration will be given to student athletes in lower-profile sports.
Scholarship recipients will be awarded the scholarship during the Kaimana Awards luncheon in June, 2010. Neighbor island recipients will be provided airfare to attend the luncheon.
