Anya Littlefield and Aaron Pigott are the two individual entries entering the Local Motion/Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Swimming and Diving State Championships this weekend on the Big Island.
The Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation finished with three individual entries and seven teams qualifying for the two-day meet which takes place at Kamehameha-Hawai‘i in Keaau, Friday and Saturday.
Littlefield, a freshman at Kapa‘a High School and the only qualifier from that school, broke numerous KIF records during the season, and finished with a 10th seed in the Girls 500 Yard Freestyle event on a 5:28.31 swim. She also garnered a 12th seed in the Girls 100 Yard Butterfly on a 1:03.81 swim, that performance coming during the KIF Championships.
Pigott, a senior at Kaua‘i High School, juggled between his soccer and swimming to earn a No. 12 seed in the Boys 100 Yard Breaststroke event on a 1:05.64 swim.
Teams earning seeds include three entries from Kaua‘i High School and two from Waimea High School.
The Menehune, finishing the KIF season by capturing the boys title, qualified teams in the Boys 200 Yard Medley Relay at the No. 17 position on a 1:59.52 swim. The Boys 400 Yard Freestyle Relay in the No. 17 position on a 3:51.47 swim is the other event Waimea placed.
Dane Harding, Micah Matsushima, Matt Holzman and Alex Milan made up the Waimea Boys 200 Medley relay team which earned its seeded time at the Jan. 23 meet. Holzman, Milan, Bryce Beaver and Harding made up the Waimea Boys 400 Freestyle relay team which earned its seeded swim during the KIF championships.
Kaua‘i boys teams include the Boys 200 Yard Medley Relay where the Raiders are seeded 15th, two above Waimea, on a 1:54.28 swim, and the Boys 400 Yard Freestyle Relay where it is also seeded No. 15 with a 3:48.73 seeded time, again two above Waimea.
Kaua‘i’s 200 Medley relay team earned its seed during the KIF Championship behind the swim of Cody Ishiguro, Pigott, D.J. Herr and Nathan Wong. Herr, Wong, Ishiguro and Pigott made up the Boys 400 Freestyle relay team which also earned its state seeded time during the KIF championships.
The Kaua‘i Girls 200 Yard Meldley Relay is seeded No. 18 on a 2:06.12 swim. The team earned its consideration time at the Jan. 16 meet behind Keisha Anaya, Sophie Britzmann, Tori Kobayashi and Christina Albano.
