This is it, people — Super Bowl weekend coming up. Time to check out Susan Pittman and the Souper Sunday event (if you’re lucky, maybe Judy Lenthall will be there) before the big game.
Stacey Serquina got a preview when she stopped off at the American Youth Football bowl game, Saturday night. Hats off to Brad Hiranaka and the Kaua‘i Youth Football crew for getting everything in order. Shawn McGurn was at Wednesday’s practice to make sure the officiating crew was set, and if you wanted the shoyu chicken, Tina Albao didn’t even have time to come up for air because the line was long.
Hats off to Tom Tannery, the YMCA of Kaua‘i, coach Billy Brown and the Swim Kaua‘i Aquatics ‘ohana, Kaipo Kealalio and his Island School ‘ohana (coach Sean Magoun even made it to the soccer play-in game) on a great KIF championship swim meet. They even had coach Bill Arakaki and coach Blanche Arakaki parking cars in the morning mist.
Over at the soccer game, hats off to coach Colby Ayonon and the Kapa‘a girls team for coming down to cheer on the Kaua‘i girls against Mid-Pacific Institute (Alia Kaohi, right wing, had her aunty in the stands trying to figure out when was the right time to cheer). Coach William Trugillo was also there with some of his Waimea girls (Charleen Miguel was at KIF swim).
