LIHU‘E — Being held on bail of $50,000 each are Li‘i Kaimana Damon Jack Cook and Brad Kubisch in separate cases involving alleged theft and other charges.
The new cases are not related to charges earlier filed against the pair, believed by Kaua‘i Police Chief Darryl Perry and others to be involved in a string of burglaries to homes and visitor accommodations on various parts of the island.
Both Cook, 25, of Kapa‘a, and Kubisch, 24, of Lihu‘e, pleaded not guilty last week to the new charges, appearing before 5th Circuit Judge Randal Valenciano.
Through their attorneys, they also requested jury trials. Kubisch’s trial is set for March 8, and Cook’s for April 5, according to court records.
Warren Perry represents Kubisch, and Craig De Costa represents Cook in this and three other cases as Cook’s court-appointed attorney.
The new charges for Cook include second-degree burglary, second-degree theft, identity theft and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.
Kubisch’s new charges include first-degree burglary, two counts of first-degree theft, and firearms charges including being a felon or accused felon in possession of a firearm, and having an unloaded firearm other than a pistol or revolver in a place illegal to have such a weapon.
Both attorneys requested bail studies for their clients, who remain at Kaua‘i Community Correctional
Center in Wailua.
