Kaua‘i High School baseball coach Hank Ibia was excited because Stephen Stasburg of the Washington Nationals was going to do some workouts, Saturday at Vidinha Stadium.
Aaron Uyeda said the No. 1 2009 MLB draft pick can throw up to 104 mph, but was toning down the throws to Kaua‘i catcher Lanan Kashima-Rice and coach Hank was busy on the phone trying to get other players down to the field.
Jordon Dizon got a taste of KIF girls basketball when mom Darla Abbatiello-Higa sent him some pix via the cell phone from the Clem Gomes Gym. Darla is now in charge of the KPD Explorers program and is getting the Scouts familiar with the workings of the police department.
And for those who missed the Martin Luther King Day celebration, congratulations to KPD officer Mark Ozaki for being selected the 2009 Peacemaker honoree. KPD Chief Darryl Perry was on hand to accept that award from Mark Jeffers. Hats off to Annaleah Atkinson on a great event, and kudos to Ron Wiley for getting in the blurb about the text donation to the Red Cross which will help the Haiti earthquake victims.
