LIHU‘E — Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Tyler Yates of Koloa was arrested Dec. 30 on a family abuse charge and released on $1,000 bail.
He was also charged with property damage, which carried a $50 bail figure.
Yates, 32, signed a minor league contract with the Pirates on Jan. 4 and received an invitation to spring training.
The veteran pitcher, who has spent parts of five seasons in the majors as both a starter and reliever, underwent Tommy John surgery last summer and is currently rehabbing in order to return to action later this year.
There is a district court date pending for each charge.
