LIHU‘E — The Kapa‘a Lady Warriors improved to 5-0 on the season with a 3-1 victory over the Kaua‘i Red Raiders in Wednesday’s early game at the New Kapa‘a Town Park field.
One of the team’s captains, Taetra Christensen, got the scoring started in the 24th minute to give Kapa‘a the 1-0 advantage.
The Raiders came back to even the contest on an Isabelle Curtis score in the 36th minute of play.
The teams went to halftime knotted at one goal apiece.
The score remained tied deep into the second half, until Kapa‘a forward Dakota Barnett had what would be the game-winning goal in the 69th minute of action.
Laurie Tamayo added the finishing touch with a score in the 72nd minute to create the final outcome.
Kapa‘a will be off until Wednesday when they will face the Waimea Lady Menehune at 4:30 p.m. at Hanapepe Stadium.
Kaua‘i is back in action Saturday, when it has a 1:30 p.m. start time with Waimea at Vidinha Stadium.
In the second half of the doubleheader, the Kapa‘a boys were 2-0 winners over the Kaua‘i Raiders.
Warriors captain Max Goode put in the first goal of the night with a 12th-minute score to create the 1-0 edge.
The teams went back and forth with nothing to show on either side until another Kapa‘a captain, this time Kaisen Carrillo, found the net in the 74th minute.
Kaua‘i assistant coach Dennis Chan received two yellow cards, amounting to a late ejection from the game.
Across town, the Waimea Menehune boys took on Island in a varsity matchup.
The Menehune came away with a 3-0 victory.
The teams were scoreless almost the entire first half until Caleb Licke got the scoring started with a goal in the 38th minute.
That score was followed almost immediately by a Kevin Killerman goal in the 40th minute, giving Waimea a 2-0 advantage at the break.
Torrey Santiago capped off his team’s shutout performance with a goal in the 70th minute, creating the 3-0 final.
All four varsity boys team will be back in action Saturday.
Waimea will hit the road to face Kaua‘i at 3:30 p.m. at Vidinha Stadium.
In early-morning action, Island will host Kapa‘a at 10:30 a.m.
