Science is about facts
The man-made global warming hoax is coming apart. The theory grew out of a scientific paper published in 1957 which questioned whether human activity, principally burning fossil fuels, was adding sufficient CO2 to cause dangerous global warming. Since then the United Nations formed its Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and various governments have spent billions trying and failing to prove the theory.
Satellite borne microwave sounding units accurately measure atmospheric temperatures. They are the only way to get truly global temperature measurements. They show that we have been cooling for the last decade. MMGW theory says warming should still be happening. Still, the hoax continues. One reason is that the IPCC is governed by politicians, not scientists. It is the brainchild of Maurice Strong, a UN bureaucrat who realized that MMGW could be used to fulfill his dream of one-world government. Climategate proves there are numbers of “scientists” who are willing to distort and fabricate data to support the political MMGW theory. You don’t have to be a scientist, just read the e-mails. Those people have joined other alarmists who have successfully used outright lies, half truths, doctored data and anecdotal stories to promote the hoax.
The biggest lie is that CO2 is the most important greenhouse gas. Water vapor is very much more important. It can absorb and transport heat. It can form clouds which may trap heat or reflect it back to space depending on the cloud formation. It can form precipitation, affecting snow packs, glaciers, rivers, lakes and vegetation.
The IPCC has been using complex computer simulations called General Circulation Models (GSMs) to try to prove the MMGW theory. Unfortunately, researchers don’t yet know how to model water vapor and clouds, just one reason the GSMs fail to match what can be measured in the real world. The climate has been warming since about 1850 (the end of the little ice age) until 2000. The GSMs predicted that most of the warming should have been in the polar regions, but Antarctica grew colder and its ice cap thicker. GSMs predicted an atmospheric hot spot about 10 kilometers above the equator. Instead, measurements showed a cool zone.
The climate has been going through warming and cooling cycles for millions of years. Atmospheric CO2 increased during the warming periods. However, the increases in CO2 lagged the increases in temperature by about 800 years. Further, rapid cooling sometimes began while CO2 levels were still high. A likely explanation for these facts is that, as the oceans warmed, they released some of the vast quantities of dissolved CO2 they contain. Global warming may well have caused increases in atmospheric CO2, not vice versa.
Science is about facts, not consensus. The facts raise serious questions regarding MMGW. There are more credible theories about what caused warming and cooling cycles over the ages. Most involve solar radiation and clouds. Until they are proven, we need to worry about the economic damage the MMGW alarmists threaten.

Your help needed to keep crime down
Mahalo for the kokua on the Kaua‘i Most Wanted project since starting on July 21. To date we have published 109 weekly most wanted names, and 36 of those either been captured or turned themselves in.
We have repeated a few names on different weeks. Some of these individuals are believed to have left the island and the state, thanks to information and phone calls from the public.
In addition, we continue to publish 20 new names weekly, for those with outstanding bench warrants, and this has been helpful also, as people have turned themselves in. So, we’d like to continue this program as we feel it is working.
Also, as we move into the new year, we would like to emphasize that we take pride in being recognized around the globe as being one of the most beautiful and safest counties to live and visit. And like other communities, we too have reported crimes and criminals who have no concern or regard for others.
Unfortunately, there are some individuals who lack proper values of respect and being pono, and who choose to violate the basic rights of citizens by committing crimes of theft, burglary, property damage and the like. With that in mind, we’d like to encourage all our citizens and visitors alike to be safety-conscious, and take precautions in securing your home and vehicles, and keep valuables in a safe, secure place.
In 2009, we have seen a rash of property crime taking place throughout the island, some of which we have arrested people for, while for some cases, we have leads that we are working on. Our officers and detectives continue to work hard in trying to resolve these property crimes and bringing people to justice. And we’re confident that individuals who have been responsible for many of our cases will be apprehended and face the consequences.
We do need the cooperation of all the residents and visitors alike to maintain the beauty and safety of our island which many call paradise. We ask that all of us look out for each other and our neighbors, report any crime or suspicious activity you see in your neighborhood or business areas, try to be good witnesses by taking down license plate numbers and descriptions of vehicles, and suspects. With everybody’s help and cooperation, together we’ll be able to keep crime down and deter possible criminal activity in our neighborhoods and business districts.
Wishing you all a happy, safe, and prosperous new year.
