Keith Suga, co-island manager, Kaua‘i operations for Goodfellow Bros., Inc. was installed on Dec. 3 as the 52nd president of the Contractors Association of Kaua‘i in ceremonies held at the Kaua‘i Marriott Resort & Beach Club. Installed as officers for 2010 were Matt Taba of Linthicum Custom Builders, first vice-president; Maile Bryan of Martin A. Bryan, Inc., second vice-president; Diana Simao of American Savings Bank, Kukui Grove Branch, secretary; and Dirk Apao of Finance Factors, treasurer. Trinette Kaui, broker-in-charge of Alexander & Baldwin Properties — Kaua‘i is immediate past president.
The 2010 directors are: Thomas Arnott of Jas. W. Glover, Ltd.; Michael Aki of Hawai’i Partition Systems; Laura Cushnie of Cushnie Construction; David Hinazumi of Grove Farm Co.; Travis Horka of Custom Landscaping and Maintenance; Lanell Miyamoto of Kalei’s Steelworks; and Fred Pascual of Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative.
The Contractors Association of Kaua‘i was established in 1957 as a trade association of licensed contractors, suppliers and businesses affiliated with the construction industry on Kaua‘i.
Chris Tatum
Marriott International has appointed Chris Tatum to Vice President in charge of the company’s portfolio of hotels and resorts in North Asia, Hawai‘i and South Pacific. He will report to Geoff Garside, Executive Vice President for Asia and Pacific in Hong Kong.
Tatum succeeds Ed Hubennette who is relocating to Great Britain to assume the position of Area Vice President, UK South and Ireland for Marriott International. Hubennette will be responsible for managing the day-to-day business of 28 hotels in London, South of London, and Ireland effective January 2.
Raised in Hawai‘i and a graduate of Radford High School on O‘ahu, Tatum joined Marriott in 1981 as a member of the Maui Marriott opening team. During his 28 years with Marriott, he held leadership positions in the United States, Asia, and Australia, including the opening Resident Manager at the JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, opening General Manager of the Brisbane Marriott Hotel in Australia, General Manager of the Renaissance Wailea Resort Maui and General Manager of the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa on O‘ahu. He is currently the General Manager of the 1,310-room Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort and Spa where he received the Marriott International General Manager of the Year Award in 2006.
In his new role, Tatum will be responsible for leading the strategic planning and operations at 31 properties with brands including JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts in the luxury tier; Marriott Hotels & Resorts and Renaissance Hotels & Resorts in the upscale deluxe tier; Courtyard by Marriott Hotels in the upper moderate category; and Marriott Executive Apartments for extended-stay travelers. The hotels are located in Hawai‘i, Australia, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Singapore, and Guam. He will be based with the rest of his team in Honolulu, Hawai‘i.
Tatum is currently Chairman of the O‘ahu Visitors Bureau and Chair-elect of the Hawai‘i Hotel & Lodging Association. He also serves on the boards of the Hawai‘i Visitors and Convention Bureau, Waikiki Improvement Association, Waikiki Community Center, and Waikiki Business District Improvement Center.
Tatum received his Bachelor of Arts degree in hotel and restaurant management from Michigan State University. During his leisure time, he enjoys golfing and spending time with his wife and their two children.
