LIHU‘E — The National Weather Service issued high surf warnings on Christmas Eve which will remain in effect through 6 p.m. today.
Surf along north-facing shores will gradually lower to 14 to 22 feet through this afternoon, the NWS warning states. This follows an episode where surf along north-facing shores remained at 25 to 40 feet through Christmas day.
The NWS said surf along west-facing shores will lower to 10 to 16 feet through this afternoon after holding at 18 to 30 feet, Friday.
East-facing shores will see surf lowering to 3 to 5 feet and surf along south-facing shores will be 2 to 4 feet, Saturday.
A new northwest swell arriving Monday is expected to generate a high surf advisory at that time. A small out-of-season south-southwest swell will last through next Saturday.
Surf heights are forecast heights of the face, or front of waves.
