More varsity boys basketball opened Monday as Kapa‘a High School hosted the opening round of the 5th annual Kapa‘a Warriors Basketball Tournament at the Bernice Hundley Gym.
King Kekaulike of the Maui Interscholastic Federation took the floor against Island in the first of four games played Monday.
The McKinley Tigers matched up against Waimea High School in the second game followed by host Kapa‘a tipping off against LeJardine. Kaua‘i High School drew the final berth against Kamehameha DII in the nightcap.
With just two days remaining before the tournament championship, losers of the opening round play the first two spots Tuesday, the first game tipping off at 3 p.m. followed by the second match starting at 4:30 p.m.
Winners of the Monday round square off against each other starting at 6 and 7:30 p.m.
The elimination continues Wednesday with the third place matchup starting at noon and the championship game tipping off at 1:30 p.m.
The Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation Boys Basketball season starts on Jan. 2 when Kapa‘a travels to Kaua‘i High School and Waimea travels to Island School.
