Kaua‘i Community College recently received $5,000 from Alexander & Baldwin and its Kaua‘i subsidiaries, according to a news release.
With the recent contribution, A&B Foundation has contributed $142,426 to KCC since 1993.
“This extremely kind, thoughtful and generous gift will directly help us to attain our goal of building Kaua‘i Community College as the intellectual center of Kaua‘i,” said Helen Cox, KCC chancellor. “We very much value working closely with the leadership of A&B subsidiaries on Kaua‘i in building and sustaining a healthy community.”
A&B’s Kaua‘i subsidiaries include A&B Properties, Matson Navigation, Kaua‘i Commercial Co., Kaua‘i Coffee Co. and Kukui‘ula Development Co.
The gift will be used to provide professional development for KCC faculty to remain current in their areas of expertise and to provide special opportunities outside of the classroom for KCC students, Cox said.
“We are so fortunate to have KCC helping our young adults to become contributing, caring and responsible citizens of our wonderful island,” said Tom Shigemoto, vice president of A&B Properties. “A&B, through its foundation, is very pleased to have had the opportunity to be involved in its many successes.”
Trinette Kaui, a member of the Kaua‘i Community College Fund Board as well as the property manager and broker in charge for A&B Properties, said she was grateful to the A&B Foundation for its generous donation that comes in the season of giving.
“KCC was very instrumental in providing assistance to the former McBryde Sugar Company workers through various programs such as culinary arts and nursing,” Kaui said. “The college continues to be an important part of Kaua‘i’s future.”
