LIHU‘E — It was almost too embarrassing an incident for Earl Morton to report.
After leaving a Lihu‘e physical-therapy clinic in the Lihu‘e Civic Center annex along Kuhio Highway, he accidentally put his wallet into the center console of a vehicle that looked a lot like his.
But it wasn’t.
As of Friday, no wallet had been turned in to Kaua‘i police, but the therapy worksheet he left on the seat of the woman’s white sport-utility vehicle was returned to the clinic, Morton said.
The vehicle has the same kind of interior as his white Ford Escape SUV, so he thought he was putting his wallet into his console before he and his wife went to a nearby restaurant for lunch, said Morton.
The wallet contains his driver’s license, credit cards, some personal checks with his telephone number on them, and he is hopeful that the woman will read this story, discover she still has his wallet in her console, and will call him to return it.
“I’m just praying for that lady,” so she’ll return his wallet, he said.
In the meantime, he has been the brunt of some good-natured teasing from his friends, including Ron Wiley of KQNG radio group, who interviewed Morton live on the radio.
