The Kaua‘i Humane Society will offer a new Junior Volunteer Critter Club the first Saturday of every month beginning Jan. 2 and running through June 5.
Middle-school students too young to volunteer without an adult will come for two hours monthly. Half the time they will work along side staff members cleaning animal enclosures, socializing and working with dogs and cats. The second half they will work on current events and interactive activities.
Junior Volunteer Critter Club was designed to introduce young people to the benefits of helping companion animals by volunteering their time. They also assist the staff at KHS and nurture a sense of compassion and respect for living beings through hands-on experiences. Duties include laundry and dishes; yard clean-up; canine and feline stress relief; kitten and puppy stress relief; kennel assistance and special projects.
The enrollment for Junior Volunteer Critter Club is $40 due at time of application. The fee covers the six-month membership in the club, in-shelter training, recording volunteer hours and program supplies. Scholarships available upon request.
Applications must be filled out completely and returned to Kaua‘i Humane Society by Dec. 18. Registration forms can be found at kauaihumane.org or at the Kaua‘i Humane Society. For more information call Carol Everett, 632-0610 ext. 103 or e-mail carol@kauaihumane.org.
