LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i High School’s Cameron Largusa has been selected to represent the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation at the Aloha Prep Bowl, Dec. 12 at Aloha Stadium.
The announcement was made by Kaua‘i High School athletic director Ross Shimabukuro, Monday afternoon.
Known for his ability to return kickoffs and punts for sizeable gains and his quickness in defense, Largusa has been named to the 2009 Hawai‘i/Polynesia-Mainland Bowl – Hawai‘i team, the second of the double-header at the Aloha Bowl.
Largusa, a senior on the Kaua‘i squad, is listed as a wide receiver/defensive back and comes in at 5’10” and tips the scales at 185 pounds.
The Aloha Prep Bowl high school football double-header is a showcase of new, talented high school football players from Hawai‘i, Samoa, and the Mainland, states the APB Web site.
Last December, Aloha Stadium hosted the first double-header showcasing Hawai‘i’s top high school football talent in two match-ups — East versus West on O‘ahu, followed by a Hawai‘i/Polynesia team versus a Mainland team.
The format evolved from the Hawai‘i Goodwill Senior Bowl which was presented by the Hawai‘i Union Builders Foundation for almost 20 years on O‘ahu.
This year, the Aloha Prep Bowl returns with new activities for the family and expanded television coverage to benefit the HUB Foundation.
The Hawai‘i Goodwill Senior Bowl, showcasing the top 100 high school football players from O‘ahu, is scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m. followed by the Hawai‘i/Polynesia-Mainland Bowl starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 for premium seating and $10 for general seating.
This week, Largusa will be with the Red Raiders when they leave Thursday to take on the top-seeded Iolani Red Raiders for the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II state football title at Aloha Stadium.
Kaua‘i, earning the right to advance following a second-half come-from-behind 28-14 victory over Hawai‘i Prepatory Academy, Friday, will be meeting Iolani starting at 4:30 p.m. this Friday.
The HHSAA First Hawaiian Bank football championship double-header will be available for live pay-per-view status on OC16, Shimabukuro said. Kaua‘i residents will be assessed $15 if they purchase before Friday, and $20 if purchased on Friday.
This is a discounted rate over the published rates of $29.95 before Friday for O‘ahu residents and $49.95 if O‘ahu residents pick up the package on Friday.
Customers wishing to watch the game live via the Web will be charged $10, the HHSAA Web site states.
Iolani, under head coach Wendell Look, has captured the Division II title for the past two years, edging Lahainaluna 28-21 in 2007 and getting past Radford 35-20 in 2008.
