Hats off to Yuki Sassone (she even got chef Mark from the Hilton to volunteer) and William Trugillo of the AYSO program on the successful Friendship Games at the new Weinberg Sports Park, Saturday.
Lenny Rapozo was doing the opening ceremonies for the Lihu‘e Baseball League, but did not miss the Kaua‘i United Way Walk-a-thon (you know it’s Nellie Okamoto’s birthday when this event rolls around) and Kaua‘i Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. was able to visit with Keith Amemiya at the HHSAA Honolulu Marathon state cross country meet following the walk.
Jim Rosa was able to make the state meet after the walk to watch Pierce Murphy finish as the No. 2 boys runner in the state. Congratulations to coach Kaipo Kealalio, Sean Magoun and all the KIF volunteers (Nellie Okamoto was volunteering at BOTH the United Way Walk and the state meet!) on a great job with the event.
Coach Blanche Arakaki was another Walk participant before joining Coach Bill Arakaki at the state meet.
Hats off to coach Dave Walker who was able to coordinate the closing festivities for G&R sugar and still make it as the starter for the state race!
‘Nuff said… it’s off to the AYSO, Region 940 Under 12 and Under 14 girls championships.
