LIHU‘E — The Hawai‘i chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects recently announced the winners of its 2009 professional awards.
The co-recipients of the Planning and Analysis Merit Award were the County of Kaua’i and consultant PBR Hawai’i and Associates for the Lihu‘e Civic Center Master Plan.
In selecting the Lihu‘e Civic Center Master Plan for this award, the judges said, “this project exhibits a much-needed vision that will transition Lihu‘e’s government center from a set of scattered islands in a sea of streets and parking to a verdant and walkable precinct, inviting community access and participation.”
County Engineer Donald Fujimoto said the department is honored to receive the ASLA award.
“With the assistance of PBR Hawai‘i and Associates and input from all the stakeholders, the County was able to come up with a plan that incorporates a common vision for the Lihu‘e Civic Center,” said Fujimoto.
The Lihu‘e Civic Center Master Plan was chosen for a professional award by a juried panel from a field of 24 entries.
The ASLA professional awards program recognizes outstanding landscape architecture in the areas of design, planning and analysis, and communications.
