LIHU‘E — Lauren Kagawa had multiple prescription medications in her system at the time of her death, which, while legal, proved to be fatal when coupled with alcohol, according to the results of an autopsy and toxicology report released Wednesday evening by the Kaua‘i Police Department.
Kagawa, 27, was found dead the morning of Aug. 17 in the driveway of the Puhi duplex she shared with her mother and sister.
The release from KPD did not include the names of any of the medications Kagawa had taken, but did say an investigation is continuing to determine if the overdose was accidental.
Last month, Police Chief Darryl Perry said investigators suspected foul play in Kagawa’s death as a result of signs she was grabbed, but said then that those “visible,” “superficial” injuries were likely not the cause of her death.
Anyone with information about Kagawa’s whereabouts on the evening prior to her death is urged to call Detective Joe Adric at 241-1868, Police Dispatch at 241-1711, or Crime Stoppers at 241-1887, according to the county press release.
