Forgive but never forget
I awoke this morning and realized that it was 9/11. All the memories of that terrible day came back as I readied myself for the day.
I remember the shock, horror and despair I felt as I watched thousands of people lose their lives on live TV. The images of ordinary people like you and I leaping to their deaths for fear of burning alive have been etched in my mind forever.
The realities of how evil and ugly the world can be was tossed in our laps that day. Then we witnessed the raw courage, the compassion and the unflappable will to survive emerge from all that chaos. We comforted each other as a country; we rallied together in the face of the evil-doers as a country and we moved on, yet my biggest hope is that we never forget, as a country.
The conflicts we are engaged in will be debated for many years to come. Forgive, maybe, forget, never.

Time to get moving
The Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce and the Retail Merchants of Hawai‘i should be ashamed of themselves for opposing the plastic bag ban.
There is a plastic garbage heap twice the size of Texas out there in the Pacific Ocean and plastic is made of oil!
This ban is very much needed to level the playing field so some unconscientious businesses cannot use cheap plastic while others pay to go green. Ask your customers to bring their own bag or charge for it.
How can we hope to turn around the sad course of this planet for our children if we cannot make such a little change as keeping reusable bags in our trunks?
Going green means making changes and taking action. Please, it’s time to get moving.

Mahalo for MS support
Words can’t express how grateful I am to all my family and friends for participating with me and my family at the MS Walk on April 18.
It was so nice to see the beautiful red shirts that my brother Kirk printed for our team, walking along the roadway. I feel so blessed and honored to have you in my life and as part of our MS Team, “Hui me kapilialoha.” We definitely fit the meaning of our name, “The group with bonding love,” because love is what I feel when we are all together.
Recently I got word that our team was the top team in the state, raising $10,209.57. We reached our goal thanks to all of your hard work and support. I am looking forward to seeing you all again around the same time next year.
All these years I haven’t gotten to thank some special people that helped me with our team so I would like to now thank: Eric Fujimoto for designing our team shirts each year and my brother and sister-in-law Kirk and Michelle Correa for ordering and printing our team shirts year after year. It’s been six years now and I am very grateful for their support of me and our team.
I would also like to thank my mom and dad, Jerry and Maxine Correa; my husband, Chico; my son, Lance; Rhonda and family; my daughter, Shan; Kahale and family; my brother, Jerry, and Marijo for coming from O‘ahu year after year to participate; my nieces and nephews, Joey, Jesse, Dallas, Shannin, Jacob and Kari; friends Lani and Al Aranio, Joni Arakaki, Trinette and Wes Kaui, Guy Higa and the many, many dear friends and family too many to mention for always being there for me all these years.
Till next year, take care and God’s blessings on you always.

Thanks for the helping hand
I would like to take the opportunity to thank Yvette Scribner and the staff of O. Thronas Inc. for their contribution in helping finish our courtyard project for the Workplace Readiness Program at Waimea High School.
In a time where budget cuts are affecting our public schools system, it is comforting to know that there are companies in our community willing to lend a helping hand.
The students, as well as myself, want to express our sincere gratitude for your efforts! Through my experiences, whether teaching or coaching, I have learned that with true support from the community maximum progress can take place in shaping our young adults and making them successful.
Your company has provided them with a positive experience that makes them feel wanted and appreciated for what they are able to do and strive harder to achieve even more.
