LIHU‘E — The 60-year-old male visitor from Poland who drowned last week at Larsen’s Beach has been identified as Jacek Sapek, according to county spokeswoman Mary Daubert.
Sapek and his son were snorkeling in the reef when they were pulled out by a riptide just before noon on Aug. 28. The son swam to shore to get a rescue tube but became caught in the rip current, a press release stated.
Lifeguards and Navy personnel responded, and fire fighters performed CPR, but Sapek was pronounced dead at Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
