Kilauea Point Natural History Association announced recipients of the Dan Moriarty Memorial Scholarship for 2009. Recipients were Erin Pickett and Troy Wooton.
Erin Pickett, Valedictorian of Kapa‘a High School class of 2006, will be a senior this fall at University of California, Santa Cruz. She plans to graduate in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology. Troy Wooton, a graduate of Kula High School, class of 2007, will be a junior this fall at University of Hawai‘i at Manoa. He plans to graduate in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology.
A scholarship of $2,000 each is awarded annually in the memory of Dan Moriarty. A respected environmental educator and conservationist, Moriarty was refuge manager for the Kaua‘i National Wildlife Refuge Complex from 1979 to 1990.
