KALAHEO — “I had four goals,” said Molly Middlebrook of the Koloa Rainbow Tigers, Saturday, working to form four fingers on her tiny hand.
Middlebrook, whose mother Laurie is one of the team’s coaches, had just come off the field from an American Youth Soccer Association, Region 940, Under 6 Girls match at the Kalawai Park.
Middlebrook’s jubilation extended beyond the back of the SUV where mom helped her with her gear as the Kalaheo mist blanketed other players who took the field.
Middlebrook was joined by her teammates Isabella Dillberg, Molly Wallace, Nahe Bukoski, Madison Thane and Allison Etrata on the field, the Rainbow moniker a fitting complement to the early morning sprinkles.
“They played terrific, today,” said Laurie, who along with Aka Bukoski head up the Rainbow Tigers. “Today, they learned the difference between offense and defense and that helped them play really well.”
The AYSO, Region 940, serving West Kaua‘i, started its fall season two weeks ago, Middlebrook said.
Maile Moriguchi, one of the leaders for the AYSO Region 940, said the Region covers players from Under 6 to Under 19 that reside in the areas from Lihu‘e through Kekaha.
She said the present registration includes more than 800 players that take the fields from the North Vidinha fields through the Waimea Canyon Park.
William Trugillo serves as the Regional Commissioner and Bob French is the Assistant Regional Commissioner.
Soccer players from Wailua through Hanalei fall under the AYSO, Region 941 umbrella.
