There are several activities occurring within the community on the South Shore in the coming months. Here are just a few:
Crime Awareness and
Prevention Seminar
The Po‘ipu Beach Resort Association, Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce and Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort & Spa are co-sponsoring a Crime Awareness & Prevention Seminar, focused on the South Shore region, Tuesday, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i. The program will open with a presentation on crime statistics and trends in the Po‘ipu area by the Kaua‘i Police Department, followed by a panel discussion in regards to crime prevention strategies.
Panelists include: Charles Iona, Police Commissioner and Director of Safety and Risk Management for Kikiaola Land Company and Waimea Plantation Cottages; Linda Ruby, President HHVISA and Director of Security at the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i; Dave Hamman, Integrity, Key Lock & Safe and Adam Orens, A&B Audio Video. A second panel will be on-hand to dicuss resources that are available to the community, including the Visitor Aloha Society Kaua‘i, Crime Stopper’s and Neighborhood Watch Programs.
Kaua‘i Marathon
With less than a month to go, The Kaua‘i Marathon has reached its goal of 1,500 runners and continues to accept applications, expecting to reach total participation of nearly 1,700 by race day. Nine countries and 44 states are represented amongst the 1,500 runners, with approximately 700 of those runners coming from Hawaii (300 from Kaua‘i).
A signature event for the South Shore, TKM is projected to bring in 2.8 million dollars to Kaua‘i’s economy during a traditionally soft period. This number is based on off-shore participants only and does not include friends and family that will be traveling with marathoners. The Kaua‘i Marathon will also attract members of the national media, providing extraordinary PR opportunities for the island. Additionally, Kaua‘i and TKM will be telecast nationally via a 30-minute segment on a cable network sometime during the fourth quarter of this year.
The public is encouraged to take part in The Kaua‘i Marathon by situating yourselves along Hoonani Road Sunday morning to motivate and congratulate runners as they approach the finish line. Leaders of the half-marathon should cross the finish line at approximately 7:15 a.m., leaders of the full marathon at about 8:40 a.m. The public is also invited to take part in the after-party at the Sheraton Kaua‘i, where local bands, including Kuhalalea and Solidarity will be featured throughout the morning.
Kukuiula Village
Now through November, Kukuiula Village is offering a preview shopping period. Grab a burger at Bubba Burgers and check out the six retail shops that are currently open for business: Bungalow 9, Gallerie 103, Gallerie +, James Hoyle Gallery, Palm Palm and Scott Hanft Photography. The superb collection of merchants will continue to grow in the coming weeks and months, culminating with a Grand Opening Celebration in December.
