Only one more day before the fair opens and Melissa McFerrin is excited.
She said Nalani Brun will be doing part of the fair’s opening ceremonies Thursday night, and Kapu Kinimaka-Alquiza’s halau will anchor the stage following the opening.
Wesley Elmore (he was with the Kaua‘i High School cross country team) said he’s thankful the fair is this week and not on the Labor Day breakfast hosted by the Lihu‘e United Church.
Laurel Loo said breakfast will be served until 10 a.m. and that is definitely worth getting up for on Labor Day.
Hats off to Kaua‘i High School boys cross country coaches Erin Dunn and Fred Sasan (he’ll be at the farm fair) on continuing a great tradition of practice, community service and keeping parents occupied while working through the mandatory parents’ items. The Red Raiders did a community service clean-up (no trash from bins allowed) while running a 3.5-mile course at Po‘ipu Beach Park. And yes, there was potluck afterwards.
On the subject of food, Priscilla Badua (Ron was busy with football photos) said the crew at the Kukui‘ula Village opening was from the West Kaua‘i United Methodist Church (too much malasada was clogging the brain). OK, so the next time you get to sample those ono thingies is at the Kaua‘i Museum Christmas Craft Fair, Dec. 4.
