Lily DeSouza didn’t know which was more exciting — her sixth birthday, or the opening of her parents Renato and Majorie’s store, Palm Palm, at the Kukui‘ula Shopping Village.
Actually, Lily had the same birthday at Josie Pablo of Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital who had to “work” on her birthday because they hosted the bon dance for the patients, Thursday night.
But everyone was having to juggle schedules. Gini Kapali was able to fly to Honolulu, pick up her grandson, and still make it in time for the Kukui‘ula opening. Dick Holtzman could not make the Kaua‘i High School/Honoka‘a football game because he was scheduled to fly to the Mainland after the Kukui‘ula opening that featured the ono malasadas prepared by the Episcopal Church of West Kaua‘i.
Jerry and Maxine Correa were at the Friday night Waimea/Hawai‘i Prepatory Academy game. Grandson Dallas had the black-and-white uniform on, and Tony Garma (Jane Garma said Syngenta Seeds sponsors the Waimea homecoming) got to spend time with the chain gang because someone else was doing the game clock.
Dallas said he got to come home because it was Admission Day weekend, and he’ll be back during the Labor Day break as well.
OK, ‘nuff said. It’s time to check out Kaua‘i Community College. It’s their first day of classes following summer.
