Derek Kawakami had a special birthday, Wednesday. Not only was it mentioned during the Kaua‘i County Council meeting, he even made history when the hula dancers from Na Lei Mokihana O Leina‘ala, there for a commendation from the council, ringed the council table and sang “Happy Birthday” to the councilman. How special is that!
Leave it up to Dickie Chang and his eye for showmanship for getting approval from Council Chair Bill “Kaipo” Asing to be able to get the young Keiki Hula Festival winners inside the council area to do the honors.
Connie Clausen (she wasn’t wearing her American Savings Bank hat) was a hit when she pulled out her collection of shopping bags from her car and presented it to the council during the public testimony phase of the plastic bag bill.
Debbie Lindsey (her husband Myron and son Makana were honored for their work re-opening Polihale park) said the Rotary Club of Po‘ipu Beach has been very benevolent in the back-to-school spirit, presented gift cards to the Koloa School teachers to help with supplies for the students.
Speaking of Rotary, there is the Movie in the Park with the 3D “Journey to the Center of the Earth” coming up at Po‘ipu Beach Park.
OK, ‘nuff said…it’s off to football!
