Soloman Williams
Solomon Bean Williams of Lihu‘e died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Aug. 12, 2009, at age 90. Born in Kealia, Kaua‘i on Feb. 25, 1919, he retired as the administrator of Kaua‘i County Civil Defense.
He was preceded in death by his wife Adeline Williams and son Russell Williams.
He is survived by his son Kaimi (Denise) Williams of Anahola; daughters Sheralyn Williams of Lihu‘e, Waiola Fields of the Big Island; 11 grandchildren Keone Williams, Michelle Hembrador, Christine Farias, Kaimana Williams, Kala‘e Fields, Keahiahi Ishizu, Ikaika Fields, Koa Williams, Ku‘ule‘a Williams; step-grandchildren Malia Barnett, Michael Barnett; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers Rev. Gaylord (June) Williams of Lihu‘e, Rev. Gilbert Williams of Honolulu, Abraham Williams of Lahaina, Maui, Bernard (Julie) Williams of Honolulu, Benjamin Williams of Wailua Homesteads and brother-in-law T. Kaipo Chandler Sr. of Ha‘ena.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 22, at Lihu‘e First Church with visitation from 8:30 a.m. and services beginning at 10 a.m., officiated by Rev. Gaylord Williams. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens at 11:30 a.m.
Casual attire is suggested and family graciously declines flowers.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Williams family with arrangements.
Marian Miyashiro
Marian Setsuko Miyashiro of Wailua died on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at her home at age 77. Born on Dec. 26, 1931, in Lihu‘e, she was a restaurant-night club manager.
She was preceded in death by parents Mama and Papa Ouye and daughter Jeannie Miyashiro.
She is survived by her husband Wilson Miyashiro Sr.; three daughters Leinani (Robert) Miyashiro-Demond of Garden Grove, Calif., Bridget Miyashiro of Las Vegas, Nev., Marcia Miyashiro of Wailua, Hawai‘i; five sons Sonny (Karen) Miyashiro of Lancaster, Calif., Bruce Miyashiro of Honolulu, Hawai‘i, David Miyashiro of Reseda, Calif., Toppy (Cherie) Miyashiro of Hanama‘ulu, Hawai‘i, Joel (Ella) Miyashiro of Keapana, Hawai‘i; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; sister Betty (William) Nestuk of Lihu‘e; brother William (Anita) Ouye of Wailua, Hawai‘i; hanai brother William “Kaipo” (Patsy) Asing of Pualoke, Hawai‘i.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m., services from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22 at Saint Catherine’s Parish in Kapa‘a. Funeral Mass to follow. Aloha attire is requested by the family.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Michael Chandler
Michael Valentine Chandler died Aug. 10, 2009 at his home in Kilauea. He was born on Oct. 1, 1930, in Wainiha.
He is preceded in death by his parents William and Rosalina Chandler, late wife Maile and his siblings Angeline, William, Silas, John, Bertha, Loke, Agnes, Margaret Frances, Leo and Joseph, and sons Levi and James.
He is survived by his wife Merrilee Chandler, sons Walter (Elsie) Chandler, Michael (Gigi) Chandler Jr., Lloyd (Nan) Chandler, Jeffrey Chandler, Leo Chandler, Maka (Lara) Chandler, Pio (Adrienne) Chandler, Shawn Chandler, Monty (Umi) Chandler, 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Aug. 21 at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and again on Aug. 22 at St. Sylvester’s Church in Kilauea from 9 a.m. where mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m.
