MOLOA‘A (4:10 p.m.) — Kaua‘i police were busy with two back-to-back incidents on Kuhio Highway in Moloa‘a today.
At around 11:48 a.m., police responded to a single-car crash involving a southbound vehicle that hit a guardrail near mile marker 17, a county news release states.
The 17-year-old male driver, who was the sole occupant in the vehicle, was not injured, but the vehicle he was driving sustained some damage.
Following the crash, police closed the southbound lane in the area for about an hour, and were preparing to leave the scene when they received a call about the vehicle fire near mile marker 19.
The female driver, who was the only occupant in the Volkswagen van, was uninjured, but the van was totally destroyed.
Both lanes of Kuhio Highway near mile marker 19 were closed at around 1:27 p.m. after the van caught on fire and were reopened at approximately 2:45 p.m.
