PO‘IPU — County officials announced Monday that all of the Kaua‘i Bus South Shore routes now include a stop at the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort and Spa.
Service to the new bus stop began Monday with the pick-up point at the hotel’s group entrance, a news release states.
The mayor said the new bus stop is part of the county’s efforts to reduce traffic congestion as well as meet the growing needs of hotel employees and visitors on the South Shore.
Transportation Executive Janine Rapozo pointed out that a slight schedule change had to be made to the Koloa shuttle route 30 in order to accommodate the Hyatt bus stop.
“The Koloa shuttle now leaves the Koloa ball park two minutes earlier than it did before, 36 minutes after the hour instead of 38 minutes,” said Rapozo.
The schedules for routes 300 and 350 have not been affected by the added bus stop.
Route 300 runs from Kalaheo to Kaua‘i Community College as well as to the Lihu‘e Airport and other stops along the way upon request.
Route 350 begins at the Lihu‘e Airport and ends at Kaua‘i Community College, with drop-offs in Koloa and Po‘ipu including the Hyatt bus stop upon request.
“I’d like to acknowledge our Executive on Transportation Janine Rapozo for working closely with Doug Sears (general manager, Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort and Spa) along with Jeannie Andrade (administrative assistant, Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort and Spa) to add the Hyatt bus stop to our routes,” said Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. in the release. “These types of arrangements take a while to finalize, so I thank everyone involved for their perseverance.”
The cost of a six-month bus pass is $90, an annual pass is $180, and a monthly bus pass is $20 a month. All bus passes can be used for unlimited travel.
On the mainline routes, individual fares are $2 for adults. Seniors and youths ages seven to 18 pay $1 for one-way travel, and children, six and under, ride free when accompanied by an adult.
Fares for the shuttle routes are less — 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for seniors and youths ages seven to 18.
The Kaua‘i Bus operates Monday through Friday, 5:15 a.m. to 7:15 p.m. On Saturdays and most holidays, it runs on a reduced schedule.
No bus service is offered on Sundays, and major holidays — Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Brochures listing bus routes are available on all county buses and at a number of businesses around the island including Big Save, Kukui Grove Center and Safeway.
