Llewellyn Lawrence Ku Malama Sr. of Waianae died June 21, 2009, at Hawai‘i Medical Center East at age 68. He was born on March 10, 1941, in Waimea, Kaua‘i.
He is survived by his wife Emily Malama; son Llewellyn Malama Jr.; daughters Lucy (Ivy) Telles-Malama, Lavaina (Keaka) Malama-Mitchell, Leona (Malcom) Ahio; brothers Joseph (Jane) Malama, William “Billy” (Leona) Malama, Vernon (Yvette) Malama, Edmund (Gloria) Malama of Kaua‘i, Patrick “Paddy Boy” (Pinky) Malama of Kaua‘i; sisters Alma Nerez and Abigail Estacio of Kaua‘i; six grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation at 8:30 a.m., service at 11:30 a.m., on Tuesday, July 21, at Mililani Mortuary Mauka Chapel. Burial at 2 p.m., at Hawaiian Memorial Park.
Aloha-casual attire suggested; flowers are welcomed.

Fred G. Sasan of Puhi died July 11, 2009, at Garden Isle Health Care at age 75. Born on June 8, 1934, in Lihu‘e, he retired as a Welding and Machine Shop Superintendent for McBryde Sugar Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents Timoteo and Francis Sasan and sister Lillian Sasan.
He is survived by his wife Camela Sasan; son Frederick (Lori) Sasan; daughter Melanie (John) Borales; brothers Jay (Diana) Sasan, Richard (Liane) Sasan, William (Mary) Sasan; sisters, Josephine (Victor) Bigno, Lucille (Tony) Bargayo; grandchildren Malia (Colin) Ceda, Joshua Rapanot, Iris (Joseph) Rapanot, Scot Sasan, Jonathan Borales, Lorinda Sasan; great-grandchildren, Andrew Rapanot, Derek Terzi, Zipporah Ceda, Ananiah Ceda and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, July 22, at Lihu‘e Missionary Church with visitation from 9 a.m. and services beginning at 10 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Sasan family with arrangements.
Patrick Powell Jr.
Patrick Alexander Powell Jr. of Hanama‘ulu died July 9, 2009, at age 25. Born on January 16, 1984, in Lihu‘e, he was a construction worker.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Charles Powell and maternal grandparents Orpiano and Loretta Gandia.
He is survived by his children Daysha-Lynn, Kaimana, Kekai “Sam” and Kailah; father Patrick (Kristine Young) Powell Sr.; mother Gay Ann Gandia; paternal grandmother Shirley Powell; siblings Michael Kiyabu, Lori (Glen) Balisacan, Shelsy Hutchinson, Devon and Joshua Powell; companion Christina “Hone” Reis; numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins and extended ‘ohana.
A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, July 20, at Lydgate Park — Large Pavilion, with visitation at 3 p.m. and services beginning at 5:30 p.m. Scattering of ashes to be done at a later date. Casual attire suggested.
