Mahalo to coach Norman Holt for the comprehensive background on West Kaua‘i Mustangs (who would’ve thought Lihu‘e winning the state title would rekindle all those baseball memories?).
Coach Norman said the wonder team back then had George Ishibashi and Richie Carveiro as coaches and included some now coaches like Michael Rita, Lance Kaneko, Robin Chinen, Barry Magaoay, and Norman Holt Jr. just to name a few.
Now that everyone is updated on the Mustangs, kudos to coach Clarence Sales and Team Central for hosting the 2009 Merv Lopes Kaua‘i Hoops Classic. Chef Guy Higa has been busy between cooking for Gov. Linda Lingle, coaching and watching the gym at Island School.
Orange raisin oatmeal cookies just epitomize what cookies are all about — eating on the run when there’s no time to sit and have a good meal — mahalo Bob and Lenore Klass, again!
Speaking of cookies, Rachel Gehrlein makes a wicked Rice Krispies energy bar — especially the ones with chocolate.
Don’t knock the boys, though, coach Brian Inouye (his son Aeron was a Summer Culinary Institute student) said the meals the kids did for the ‘Ohana Luncheon were tasty.
