“What’s different (today)?” Watanabe asked as she was about to sentence Rapozo for second-degree terroristic threatening in a three-year-old case.
“I used to drink a lot, but I don’t drink anymore,” Rapozo said.
“So you finally grew up?” Watanabe asked.
“I like my freedom. I no like be locked up,” he said.
“I’m sorry for what I’ve done,” said Rapozo, adding that he wants to be out to be with his two sons and two daughters.
Deputy Public Defender Dena Renti Cruz said Rapozo wants to put the incident behind him and recommended a $500 fine and no jail time or probation.
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Justin Kollar said the incident occurred nearly three years ago, no one was hurt, and Rapozo has been clean for three years, offering no objection to the fine.
Watanabe fined Rapozo $500 Wednesday, of which Rapozo said he could pay $280 immediately and the remainder in five weeks.
“Learn from this and move on,” Watanabe said. “Take care of your family. Keep them out of court.”
