KALAHEO — Lauren Claypoole, Reggie McCabe and Uinise Paua each netted a dozen points to lead the Gee’s Angels to a 47-31 win over Kaulupono, Monday night.
In the second game of the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association summer league, shooting guards Kristle Henry and Mahea Hanie-Grace finished with 20 and 11 points, respectively, to lead the Kamikaze to a 38-35 edge over Waimea.
That sets the stage for the championship round this Saturday when the fight for third place will pit Waimea, getting nine and eight points from Caitlyn Owen and Paige Connelly, respectively, against Kaulupono.
That game will start at 1 p.m. at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center followed by the championship game that will pit the Gee’s Angels against the Kamikaze.
During the opening game, Kaulupono got 10 points from its No. 3 player Casey Anacleto and nine marks from Arrissa Thronas.
“This is the best part of the season,” said Karen Matsumoto, one of the KYBA coordinators. “It’s great to see the girls improve their game, and how they’ve helped their teammates step up as well.”
Before the championship game, Saturday, KYBA will host four games, Thursday.
Two of those will feature Boys Under 14 at Kilauea Neighborhood Center and two of the games will feature Girls Under 17 at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
At 6 p.m., in Kilauea Neighborhood Center, the G-Unit B goes up against the G-Unit A followed by Hanakila hosting the Kalepa Hillsiders at 7 p.m.
Kaulupono hosts the Kapa‘a Titaz in a 6 p.m. tipoff at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center in the first of two GU17 matches. That match will be followed by Waimea hosting the Gee’s Angels at 7 p.m.
On Friday night, two games are on tap at the Kaua‘i High School gym when Pop It goes up against Kilauea followed by F-N-G taking on Wailua in the Girls 18 and Over games.
