An awards recital was presented recently by students of Joyce Anglemyer consisting of a repertoire they’d memorized for the National Guild of Piano Teachers auditions. All were national winners playing a ten-piece program from memory for the judge.
The Guild sends a professional judge to Kaua‘i every year to evaluate students. This year’s judge was Alice Ginger of South Carolina. The Guild gives students an opportunity to strive for individual excellence in a non-competitive environment, as well as giving them a goal to work toward. Programs consisted of pieces by Baroque, classic, romantic, modern and contemporary composers.
The following students played: Kyle Baliscan, Christyann Clement, Hemily Clement, Katy Talvi, Ryenn Taogoshi and Ivana Wu. All students were recognized by receiving a certificate, pin and statuette. The “Most Improved” award went to Wu. Baliscan received the “Practice Makes Perfect” prize for the most hours of practice.
Dr. Timothy Lee, ophthalmologist was a special guest along with his daughter, Bonnie. He played selections by the contemporary Korean composer, Yiruma. Lee shares his talents with other doctors who annually present a piano concert held at the Blaisdell Auditorium in Honolulu as a benefit for the Aloha Medical Mission.
