Evelyn Arinaga
Evelyn Kiyoko Asaoka Arinaga of Kealia died on June 20, 2009 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 89. Born on Dec. 8, 1919, in Kapa‘a, she was a retired housekeeper at the Hotel Coral Reef.
She was preceded in death by husband Masashi Arinaga of Kealia.
She is survived by sons Stephen (Vivian) of Honolulu, Larry of Honolulu and Clayton (Althea Kalei) Arinaga of Kealia; daughter Pearl Meladish of Kapa‘a; brothers Kanao (Patsy) Asaoka of Lihu‘e, and James (Nora) Uyeda of Las Vegas; sister Catherine (Harold) Niwa of Honolulu; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Services will be private.
Arrangements will be handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
Sergio Alvarez
Sergio “Sonny” Alvarez of Cebu City, Philippines, died on May 25, 2009 at St. Vincent General Hospital at age 75. Born on Sept. 9, 1933 in Kekaha, he was a retired laborer.
He is survived by his wife Salvacion (Sally), sisters Mary Adams and Maria Peros, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Thursday, May 28 in Cebu City, Philippines.
Leo Trinidad
Leo Laureta Trinidad of Kalaheo died on June 25, 2009 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 78. Born on Nov. 15, 1929 in Bangued, Philipines, he was a doctor of medicine.
He is survived by his wife Mercedes Bueno Trinidad; children Richmond Rocky, Vet, Cora, Jun, Jessie, John, Leni-Anne; in-laws; grandchildren; brother Beato; nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Casual attire; flowers are omitted.
A celebration of his life will be on July 2, with visitation at 9 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. at the Holy Cross Church. Cremation to follow.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home Assisted the Trinidad family with arrangements.

Scott Dale Lanakila Cruz Wa‘alani Aviguetero died on June 20, 2009 at age 25. Born on July 8, 1983 in Waimea, Kaua‘i, he was the lead “Truckah” and very proud driver of the 1986 Gold Kenworth Rig W-1.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Frederic C. Aviguetero, maternal grandfather Francis Furtado, niece Anela May Nordmeier and hanai mother Barbara Wa‘alani.
He is survived by his companion and girlfriend Shana Marie Amulacion; parents Douglas and June Aviguetero; sisters Chanel (Danford) Kaeo, Raquel (Kai) Santos, Devi (Kevin) Nordmeier, Ashlee (Chad) Aviguetero, Makanoe Ayau; brothers Isaiah Kanahele, Brandon Hamada; hanai ‘ohana Rick “Truckah” Wa‘alani Sr., Rileene (Palenapa) Wa‘alani, Richie Wa‘alani Jr., Ryan (Theresa) Wa‘alani; grandparents Kaleo and Marlene Furtado; grandmother Mary Kapahu Aviguetero; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Wake services with visitation at 5 p.m., on Friday, July 3, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Celebration of Life services to start at 7 p.m. Light refreshments and pupus will be served. Aloha Friday attire is requested.
Family and friends can visit with the family at 9 a.m. at The Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church Kekaha Ward – Cultural Hall, on Saturday, July 4. Celebration of Life services at noon in the chapel with burial to follow at the Kekaha Hawaiian Cemetery.
