LIHU‘E — Romie Manzano won one and lost one among his several cases of theft, forgery and other charges.
Attorney Greg Meyers was able to successfully get one of Manzano’s cases dismissed without prejudice Thursday.
One of the Hawai‘i Rules of Penal Procedure regarding timely arraignment on charges had not been adhered to, so Manzano’s charge of unauthorized control of a vehicle was dismissed on the technicality despite prosecutors’ opposition.
Manzano, in cases where he is represented by Public Defender Edmund Acoba, found out he is not a candidate for Kaua‘i Drug Court, in cases involving charges of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, theft (five counts), forgery (12 counts), credit-card fraud (two counts) and credit-card theft.
Acoba asked 5th Circuit Judge Randal Valenciano for a continuance in order to get an updated sentencing report that reflects up-to-date information on the amount of time Manzano has already served for his sentence of probation and one year in jail on another matter.
He is scheduled to be resentenced on July 9.
