The Team Soccer Direct camps will be starting Monday and running through Thursday at the Island School complex, said Kaua‘i Soccer Association commissioner Kevin Devitt.
This will be the seventh year the Team Soccer Direct staff will be hosting camps in Hawai‘i utilizing the experience of soccer coaches in the western region of the United States.
Coach Justin Neerhoff of the University of San Diego, the Women’s West Regional Head Olympic Development Program Goalkeeping, former assistant coach at the University of California, Irvine will be among the leaders. He will be joined by a number of collegiate players who will be assisting throughout the camp.
The camp will be broken down into two segments — 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. includes a Technical Soccer Development program, with 2 to 3:30 p.m. set aside for high school players.
The Technical Soccer Development program is open to youth from ages 6 to 17 years old and players will be grouped according to age level and skill.
High School Camp will focus on positional training, goalkeeping and shooting.
Cost to register is $115 per player for half day sessions and $165 for full day programs. High School Camp registration is $115. Registration will be limited to the first 70 players, and teams are welcomed to attend.
In addition to the instruction, players will receive a t-shirt, water bottle and a completion award.
The Team Soccer Direct curriculum was developed by NCAA coaches headed by George Kuntz, the UC Irvine men’s head coach and the Hawai‘i Youth Soccer Association Director of Coaching. Kuntz’s Division I men’s team at UC Irvine finished the 2008 season ranked first in the West and 10th in the United States. Kuntz will be overseeing the clinic here.
The soccer camp is designed and recommended for all soccer players who aspire to become better players. American Youth Soccer Association players, AYSO Select, aspiring ODP level as well as junior varsity and varsity high schoool players between the ages of 5-18 years old are invited to attend.
