KILAUEA — Balanced scoring was the key to Hanakila’s 38-32 win over the G-Unit B in one of two Boys Under 14 games played Monday at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center.
In a second matchup, Kerwin Morano and Trey Aguano combined for 18 points to lead the Kalepa Hillsiders to a 41-36 edge over the G-Unit B in the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association summer league.
Cy Whitlock’s eight points led the Hanakila scoring, followed by James Stevens with seven. Marlon Cudiamat and Kala Kauhane each contributed six points to the win.
Steven McCabe and Mikal Moranz topped the G-Unit B scoring with 10 and nine points, respectively.
Morano led the Hillsiders with a dozen in their win, Aguano following with six points.
Morean Clement finished with a game-high 16 points and Tyler Fernandez added a dozen points to lead the G-Unit A. Leevi Bethel added six points in the effort.
The KYBA boys get a respite until next week because a lot of the players are involved in the ZZ Basketball tournament that starts Thursday afternoon at the Kaua‘i High School gym and runs through Saturday.
