Michiyuki Uchida
Michiyuki “Midi” Uchida of Lihu‘e, died April 28, 2009 at the Regency at Puakea at age 92. Born May 20, 1916, in Lihu‘e, he was a retired police captain with the Kaua‘i Police Department.
He was preceded in death by wife Sachie Uchida, father Sutetaro Uchida, daughter Dee Ann Eiko Uchida and sister Mutsuko Uchida.
He is survived by sons Alvin (Susan) Uchida of Lihu‘e, Barry (Cheryl) Uchida of Lake Oswego, Ore.; grandchildren Nick and Maile Uchida; brothers Philip Uchida of Honolulu and Masami Oda of Wailua Houselots; sisters Lillian Kasumi of Honolulu and Hatsue (Hisao) Shimabukuro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will begin with visitation from 9-10 a.m. on June 20, at Lihu‘e Christian Church. Services will follow at 10 a.m.
Kimiyo Akaji
Kimiyo Morimoto Akaji of Lawa‘i, died on May 14, 2009 at Wilcox Hospital at age 92. Born October 18, 1916 on Kaua‘i, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by son Bruce (Delia) Akaji of Kalaheo, daughters JoAnn (Roy) Fujimoto of Hilo, Barbara (Tom) Gargano of Georgia, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Private services were held.
Amelia ‘Emily’ Silva Rapozo
Emily Rapozo of Kapa‘a, died on June 6, 2009 in her home at the age of 86. Born on January 17, 1923, in Kealia, she retired as the head custodian with Kapa‘a Elementary and Kapa‘a High School.
She was preceded in death by husband Frank S. Rapozo Jr.; parents Frank and Isabella Silva, brothers Manuel DeSilva and Frank Silva; sisters Mary Rocha, Tina Garcia, Georgina Carvalho, Bella Garcia and Josephine Chansky.
She is survived by sons Stephen (Joann) Rapozo of Kapa‘a and Mervin (Fay) Rapozo of Wailua Homesteads, daughters Madeline (Dennis) Yamaguchi of Kalaheo and Doreen Rita of Kapa‘a, brother Alfred Silva of Kapa‘a, sister Virginia Rosa of Kapa‘a, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation from 8:15-9:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Kapa‘a. Mass celebrated at 10 a.m., burial to follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Rapozo family with the arrangements.
Lorraine Medeiros
Lorraine C. Medeiros died on June 8, 2009, at age 70. Born on Dec. 29, 1938, she was a tee time starter at Kukuiolono Golf Course.
She was preceded in death by her father Reinhold Cremer Sr., mother Margaret Rapozo Cremer, husband Patrick Medeiros Sr. and son, Patrick “Patta” Medeiros Jr.
She is survived by her daughter Denise Medeiros; sons Bruce, Russell (Marlo), Robin (Joy), Jarret (Starley) Medeiros; 19 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters Marion (buddy) Lizama, Elizabeth (Johnny) Owen, Jeanette (Filo) Tu, Loretta (Henry) Johnson, Bernadette (Jerry) Reynolds; brothers Ronnie Creme, Robert (Patricia) Cremer, Edward Cremer and Eric Cremer.
Visitation from 3:30-4:30 p.m., mass at 5 p.m., on June 15 at St. Raphael’s Church in Koloa.
Private burial services will be held at a later date.
Family requests casual attire and that flowers be omitted.
Grover Yamamoto
Grover C. Yamamoto of Kapa‘a died on May 27, 2009 at Wilcox Hospital at age 75. He was born on September 10, 1933 in Honolulu.
He is survived by wife Hisako Yamamoto of Kapa‘a, son Gene Yamamoto of Kapa‘a, daughter Naomi Quintana of Murrieta, Calif., three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, brother Gerald (Masako) Yamamoto of Honolulu, sisters Lei (Patrick) Omura of Honolulu and Naomi (Yuke) Morikawa of Honolulu.
Services are private.

Elizabeth Lawrence
Madeline “Aunty Lena” Torres of Ewa Beach, O‘ahu, died on June 8, 2009 at Hale Nani, at age 82. She was born on March 10, 1927, in Kalaupapa, Moloka‘i.
She was preceded in death by husband Cresenciano Torres and daughters Luana Rosa and Elizabeth Torres.
She is survived by sons Alvin Travens and Angelo Batin Jr.; daughters Barbara (Butch) Diehl, Yolanda (Elliot) Cutcher, Sunday (David-Kawika) Dargel, Christine (Jaime) Orozco; sister Philomena Eblacas, 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services are private.

Elizabeth Lawrence
Elizabeth “Betty” Lawrence died on June 12, 2009 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 82. Born on July 5, 1926 in Honoka‘a, Hawai‘i, she was a caregiver of the Simpkins children for 35 years.
She is survived by brother Louie (Laura) Lawrence of Honoka‘a; sister Aida Branco of Honoka‘a; Audrey R. Simpkins of O‘ahu, Roberta L. Simpkins of Lihu‘e, Frank E. Simpkins of Oregon, Sheryl Blythe of Guam, Roxanne Williams of Guam, Robert “Buddy” E. Simpkins Jr. of Guam, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, June 16, at St. John Vienna Church in Kailua, O‘ahu with visitation from 9-9:45 a.m. and Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be on June 19, at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Lawrence family with arrangements.
Jeanne Corbett
Jeanne Claire Corbett of Kapa‘a died on June 5, 2009 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 64. Born on April 11, 1945 in Manchester, N.H., she was an accomplished Lauhala weaver.
She was preceded in death by parents George (Bob) and Louise Beauparlant.
She is survived by husband John; daughter Jesse; son Joseph; brother Arthur (Bill) and Donna Beauparlant; nieces Lynn, Ann, Carol, Christine; nephews James and Peter, and numerous other family members and loved ones.
A memorial service will be held at Kapa‘a First Hawaiian Church at 10 a.m., on Saturday, June 20.
Ruford Nacino
Ruford V. Nacino of Kalaheo died on May 13, 2009 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 42. Born on May 13, 1967 in Waimea, he was a deckhand with P & M Marine Services.
He was preceded in death by father Ruperto Nacino.
He is survived by mother Juliana Nacino; sisters Juliet Nacino of Kailua, Kona, Janet Nacino of Portland, Ore., Joan Nacino (Ken Pollet) of Honolulu; nephew Chandler Nacino and niece Reina Nacino.
Visitation from 9-11 a.m., mass at 11 a.m., on June 20, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo. Casual attire suggested.
