During the tournament that opened Thursday afternoon, more than 150 Junior Golfers from around the state converged at the Kaua‘i Lagoons golf course that accomodated the tournament through the efforts of Scott Ashworth, Director of Golf at the Kaua‘i Lagoons.
“It was a pleasure having the Junior Golfers here,” Ashworth said of the tournament. “I’m glad that we could have them come here to Kaua‘i to have this event. I’m surprised at the amount of good golfers there are in the field.”
Allisen Corpuz, earning an exemption to the Junior World in the 11-12 division, topped the girls in the 13-14 with a 36-hole total of 148 (74-74). “He must have been playing deep on the back nine with all the wind blowing,” said Ashworth. Shigezawa finished the back nine with a two-under par 34, the same score he carded on the opening round.
Following Shigezawa, Bou-An Fujieki of Honolulu topped the six spots with a two-under par 142 (69-73).
