The Hawai‘i 2009 exhibit is the largest and longest running all-media juried exhibition in the state. Pictured here is one of eight Kaua‘i submissions accepted to the show, ‘Ha‘upu,’ a pastel by Devi Town. This view of Ha‘upu is from Po‘ipu, with the old Koloa Cane Factory in the distance. Ha‘upu translates as ‘to recollect.’ In the course of 30 years on Kaua‘i — between raising a family and working as a nurse — Town has pursued her passion in several mediums, working primarily in pastel, watercolor, oils, and acrylics. She is affiliated with the Kaua‘i Society of Artists and Pastel Artists of Hawai‘i and has exhibited and been recognized in several juried and semi-juried shows since 2007. The Hawai‘i 2009 exhibit is in the gallery at Honolulu Academy of Arts through Aug. 16.
