Kapa‘a residents were greeted by an eight-foot multimedia sculpture centered in the Kapa‘a roundabout Monday morning. With electrical wire muscles, lungs made from fans and an alarm clock heart, the impromptu art piece delighted motorists. Other notable elements include a microwave abdomen with appliance tubing intestines, cordless phone ears, a horn nose, boom-box eyes and a circuit board torso. The statement — about modern man’s relationship with machines, according to a person familiar with the project — proved to be short-lived, as the sculpture was removed by 10 a.m. A Public Works employee, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said it was a shame this work could not be on display where more people could appreciate it. Electronic man is currently being held at the Kapa‘a base yard, but might be seen again soon. Pam Woolway/The Garden Island
